I'm Rachel Andrew. I'm a web developer, writer and editor, and public speaker. I spend about half of each year on the road, mostly as a solo traveller, and almost always for work.

I'm also something of an aviation nerd, and will make travel decisions in order to fly an interesting route or aircraft, or to check out a different airport. In addition to working and travelling to work, I'm a runner, triathlete, and CrossFitter. This blog aims to bring all of these aspects of my life together.

Over the past few years I've collected a lot of useful information about travel, especially solo business travel, and about staying fit while on the road. I'll share with you some of the kit I love, the places I've been, the travel hacks that make life a little easier, and the utterly baffling hotel gyms I encounter.

An inconvenient elbow

In January 2013 I shattered my right elbow, resulting in 6 hours of surgery that day and three further operations to try and put it back together again. As a result I have limited range of movement in that elbow, and some nerve damage affecting my dominant hand. For fans of gory detail you can read that story in my old blog. This disability impacts various things. I currently ride a flat bar bike, riding dropped handlebars and operating the brakes safely being an issue. I can't front rack a bar properly in CrossFit, thankfully CrossFit is excellent at adapting workouts and we always figure out something I can do instead. And, as I strengthen my shoulder and core, more things become possible. It's also pretty important that I sleep with my hand higher than the rest of me, as otherwise my hand swells. My interest in travel hacking began in an attempt to be able to fly long overnights in business class!

You can find me in some other places.
